Firman Generator Troubleshooting

When your Firman generator fails to start after several attempts or if there is no power supply even after starting it, please, check as follows:

When the engine fails to start: Check if the choke lever is at the ‘CLOSE’ position. You should also check if the fuel and engine oil is sufficient. Check if the fuel cock is at the ‘ON’ position. You should also ensure all parts are in excellent condition. You should check the spark plug to see if it is loose or if it is too dirty. Check whether the carburetor is blocked, and ensure the Firman generator is not connected to any appliance.

No power supply after start: Ensure the AC circuit breaker is at the ‘ON’ position. Check the alternator brush to confirm that it is not damaged. Check if the AC terminal has loose connections. Check whether there are several external appliances connected before you start.

However, if your Firman generator is still giving you issues, get in touch with the nearest certified repair shop or generator dealer to get support.

Firman Generator DIY Repair

The last thing you want when using your generator is a failure. Things happen in the real world: fuel lines clog, filters break, pull cords tear, etc. Before you say ‘Jack,’ your dearly beloved generator starts rattling, have delayed starting, or will not fire up at all.

The following DIY repair tips should come in handy, enabling you to fix minor issues yourself instead of calling the repair service shop:

Recognize warning signs
It is essential to understand the problems that plague portable generators before taking yours to the dump. For instance, a torn pull cord is easy to replace. If your generator is experiencing startup delays, you may only need a filter or fuel replacement.

Check the breakers
At times, your generator may start and even run smoothly and without difficulty, except that it is not supplying any electricity. This can be utterly frustrating, especially if you need it on the go.

Your breakers could be faulty. You can easily replace the breakers by ordering a new set designated by the manufacturer and installing them accordingly. You can avoid this hassle by checking the breakers often or from time to time.

Replacing a torn pull cord
A broken pull cord is a common issue with portable generators. You can easily replace a torn pull cord, but watch out for the spring. Before wrapping the new cord around the starter, ensure the spring is carefully wound as far it would go. If you don’t do this, the cord will hang from your generator with no functional spring to retract it into the housing.

Replace your fuel filter
Most portable generators have small plastic fuel filters that help prevent gasoline debris, dust, and dirt. These may corrupt the generator system if allowed free passage. Although these filters excellently perform their job, they can easily become clogged from all the debris and dust they catch over time. When this happens, the fuel system will receive little or no fuel.

Detach the fuel line where it is attached to the carburetor while holding it over a small container in order to catch leftover fuel. Observe whether fuel is seeping through the filter if any. If no fuel passes through, it is time to replace the filter.
